trim piece above steering column and below gauge cluster

i have taken all the screws out that are necessary as i can get both pieces nearly the whole way off, but i cant seem to get the gauge bezel out, nor can i remove the trim piece below it. I am swapping my dash so i need to pull the gauge cluster, but i can figure out how to get the trim piece out without breaking it. Any help would be great. According to the bentley it should come right off. but mine isn't.

It's a bitch. You just have to work it for a while and all of a sudden it will pop out.

I tought I was going to break it a few times, but it's sturdy. It's just hard to remove.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

Make sure to remove those 2 silber Knurled nuts that hold that lower piece on, Then just pull it out(takes some force)

there are 2 little brass nuts behind it, they are up in the dash and a real pain in the ass to get to if you hav big hands. pull off the knee bolster and look up in there and you will see them.

Yea this thread is old but this piece is a PITAAAAAA to get out. I popped the right side out easily but the left side (next to the headlight switch) doesn't want to let go. I twist and turn, twist, turn but nothing I'll get the slut off....
