    Covering the dash...

my 318i, like many many others, has a cracked dash. therefore, i was wondering if anybody has recovered their dash w/ leather or vinyl. i believe i saw somewhere, an e30 w/ a completely leather dash and two-toned interior (black and tan). it was a 4-door, also i believe it was in europe. so... any insight on this at all? how much it would cost? is it a very difficult process? any info or even pictures would be awesome!

I have a friend that did it in a Volvo, it looks great, but the cracks have to be fixed, if not they will show through the cover.

The upholsterer used a vinyl that did not have cloth backing, he could stretch it, and he did it in a workbench with lots of big bulbs on (I guess he needs the vinyl to be warm to easy to stretch.

I started a thread about suede. there are links to finding the right kind of suede that stretches over the curves. It's a big project to take the dash out, but seems interesting nontheless.
