    seat belt problem

My drivers seat belt doesn't pull back into the holder very well.(part behind the door where the extra seat belt pulls into) This is sort of hard to explain because I don't know the proper terms.

When the seat belt is pulled hard it locks up properly like it should. The problem is when you take the seat belt off it doesn't pull back into the holder as good as my other e30. It just sits there unless you "help it" by feeding it back into the hole. Is there some sort of spring or coil that makes it pull back when loose? Whatever this mechanism is, I believe is very worn out.

Can anyone explain how this works and how it can be replaced? I found nothing by searching so I guess it isn't a very common problem.

I had a similar problem with my passenger belt, it simply would not rewind itself (I'm guessing due to a broken or worn out mechanism). Belts are easy to replace, just buy one on eBay or your local junkyard. To install it, pull the rear trim panel, unbolt the old belt, bottom rail, and swap in the new one.

And don't panic if your replacement belt won't unwind - it has to be at the right angle and it will come undone.

      Thanks a lot!
I just need to know what to get now. The belt itself doesn't need to be replaced, it's the mechanism that makes it rewind. Do you know what this is called or have a part number or anything? I don't exactly what it is I need nor can I find it on any OE part diagram.

The belt and mechanism are one unit. If you search ebay for e30 front seatbelt you can see what I am talking about.
