anyone know how much it would cost to recover a race seat?

    Hey guys,
Picked up a sparco with a not so great cover. But It was red so I tried to dye it black, it looks ok, but is too crusty :(

Anyone have any idea how much it would cost to recover the seat with just plain black cloth? Nothing special, maybe some new foam here and there.

    Thanks in advance!

      ^cause race car

About $100 at a hole-in-the wall shop. $400 for something that will look decent.

Upholstery is hard to do. You almost have to get it done it locally. Shipping(if you could find an expert,is beyond the cost of new) Even then, almost ever job I've seen has wrinkles on the seams. They do their best to do it once, and get it right, but almost no shop will do it 10 times to do it so there isn't a single wrinkle. Heck, they won't even do it twice. You'll get what you get.

Honestly I'd only wanna pay up to maybe 120 bucks. I bought the seat for 40 bucks. All I want is a new cover on it. Its not a show car. So I'm gunna ask around locally. I have a few ideas of where to go. But I just don't wanna spend 400 bucks on this old seat :p

If you choose a material that can stretch wrinkles will be minimized/eliminated.

You wont find an upholster worth a crap that could do it for 120.. material cost alone could equal that and i doubt they would do the work for free.

It amazed me how people can spend 2k on wheels yet only want to spend .02 on interior when its where you spend the most time with your car.

a lot of times the original manufacturer will sell coivers. On most race seats they are just held on with hog rings anyway...

lol I didn't spend 2k on my wheels. I'm on probably one of the tightests budgets on r3v (part time at mcdonalds). So I like to do thinks right, but sometimes its not necessary to spend copious amounts of money on things that don't really change the functionality of the car. The seat works, and is comfty. It just could use some work ;)

And thanks Mak, ill try sparco.

what part is bad? the entire thing? Usually sparco seats have replaceable skins that are just held in with velcro. what seat is it? I have the pro2000 and it's thigh bolster has a cig burn, not worried enough to replace it, but it's totally possible. I think it's still like 120 to replace.

i think the purpose here isn't for a show seat, but one that is functional and more or less comfortable without being torn up (or pink)
