how bad is the material? the thing i learned is that if you reupholster in leather, be prepared to see it shrivel up in a few years to the same condition that convinced you to get it reupholstered in the first place.

If your current set has no large rips or tears, then it is easily salvageable with some time and patience. it just requires some cleaning, dying, etc on your end and it should look presentable

I beg to differ; the only reason the interior fade, wrinkle, crack etc is due to simple neglect. You won't be able to restore weather beaten leather with dye, cleaning etc. Because, like your skin, if exposed to sun for long duration eventually it will dry out and become hard. So, if you moisturize your skin to protect it from long exposure to sunlight. you can do the same with leather. That is why there are leather care products out there. Trying to make hard leather soft and supple looking by prep and dye is like trying to make a silk purse from a sows ass. it might look good but it will still be a weathered interior and hard. doing it the dye way will still run you a few hundred with product and time and best you know what you're doing. This method will work if your leather is still relatively workable -soft.

If you are willing to spend the money for a kit which will run about 1200-1500. at least it will be new.(and remember. 20+ years of exposure is going to do that to your leather) I've had my kit for almost a year in my car and there hasn't been any deterioration what so ever.
