So I bought an '89 325i 4-door. It's pretty fucked up in some places but one thing is that the glove box won't open. The key turns in the lock but it just doesn't unlock (and therefore doesn't open). Any help would be appreciated.

If not, acquire a new "working" glovebox latch then carefully break the dame thing off, and save the lock cylinder and put it in your newly acquired glovebox latch, voila your good to go....
dont unscrew it from the bottom/back... shit gets kinda hard to put it back together, plus you have to align it right and all that BS....
I have a great glove box latch if you want it pm me!

step one: get a sledgehammer
step two: hit the glovebox
step three: hit it again
no, I'm just kidding. I had the same problem a few months back. Removing the screws from the back of the glovebox won't do you any good. There's no way to open the box from the inside. You have to pull the plastic latch open while you insert a flat head underneath to pull the J shaped latch catch. Be careful not to break anything. But if you're like me and broke the damn J shaped latch catch, you have to break the plastic latch off and then pull the broken piece of the J shaped latch catch.
And then do what butcher37 says, so that you can use your existing key.
