Does anyone know if the mounting puck for the convertible mirror is available by itself anywhere? I have my mirror, but there is no mounting puck to mount it to the windshield and I am tired of not having a mirror in my car. Thanks to all in advance.

The dealership here sucks balls. Piss poor customer service and everytime I try and call their parts department, I have to leave a message and NEVER get a call back. I actually called a place here in San Antonio called Bert's Motor Works and the parts guy there told me to look on realoem.com. He said if the part is there and it shows available from BMW, that they can order it. The guy was really cool and we both looked on there while on the phone. I found the part number and it is still available for like 8 or 9 bucks. I had him order it and it should be here next week. Next on the list is a maplight mirror...

as far as I know you can't mount a maplight mirror on a cabrio
I put one on my ex-wife's sedan but it's mounted higher if I remember correctly. on a cabrio you have to figure out how to run the power down the front of the windshield because our mirrors are approximately 1/8th the way down from the top.
I know you said piece of mind but honestly unless you really can't stand to have one I'd just ditch it. I could never keep mine from vibrating and, at least in Oregon and California, the law requires only two working mirrors. I haven't missed on in over ten years and forward visibility is improved.Das ist nicht nur nicht richtig, es ist nicht einmal falsch!Comment

well I shouldn't have written "can't." One can do whatever one wants with the right tools and ambition. My point was it's not possible without the power cable showing.
Having owned both I agree with the poster in that thread pointing out the dome light provides more illumination than the map lights so it's not a functional improvement.
As for an aesthetic improvement, that's up to the driver but this isn't my idea of a good look in a cabrio:

You're in Texas and I'm in California so I think you'll agree that one of the best things about a cabrio is driving along the coast and watching the sunset with the top off :) I didn't like the mirror blocking that view let alone a cable run.
Let me put it this way, if the guy who installed that was after a unique and cool look, he'd have been better off installing a euro panel instead of that maplight. That's just my opinion but I'm the type of owner who is slowly restoring to period correct as it would have looked in Germany.Das ist nicht nur nicht richtig, es ist nicht einmal falsch!Comment

I completely agree with the top down. I love it. Pisses me off that it is winter and rainy and I cant drop the top lol. I am shackled with poor lighting in my vert and I am hoping that this mod will "shed some light" on my interior at night. I am trying to see if I can easily add footwell lighting in the front. I hate that I cant see really well in my car at nigh when I open the door....well I shouldn't have written "can't." One can do whatever one wants with the right tools and ambition. I also don't mind the cable. You see them on every car nowadays that has any kind of electric mirror.
A buddy of mine has a euro check panel he is going to sell me for $10 plus my US check panel.......

regardless of whether you go maplight or not, check into buying/modding in an LED for that dome light.
as for the rain, unless you're an ice cube you're not going to melt so leave the top down! :PDas ist nicht nur nicht richtig, es ist nicht einmal falsch!Comment

It could be done better...i have one in my vert and it looks like it belongs there. The vert regular mirror and the map light mirror mount differently. The vert mounts to the window, the maplight to the roof of the car. If you take the "handle off the vert mirror, where it mounts to the the actual mirror and put it on the maplight mirror. Then you will be able to attached the maplight to the vert mounting point on the windshield. There is a DIY on R3v somewhere. I'll see if i can locate it.Comment
