    Cluster f*ck

The cluster in my '89 IS is having some issues. The only thing that works is the speedo. Everything else is out. When I turn the car on, the tach jumps slightly, but then it falls back to 0 and stays put. I checked my the fuse, it's fine. I replaced the SI board batteries, no dice either. That was a pain in the ass, now I'm just discouraged. I hooked everything back up correctly but I'm still only getting the speedometer to work. Could there be a relay or something else I'm overlooking that could be the problem? I believe the gears in the thing are fine. I'm guessing I should probably get a new SI board. But, before I jump into that I'd like to see what the cluster gurus have to say. Thanks guys.

have you checked ALL of your fuses? I did, replaced one and it fixed all of my interior electrical problems. I think it was number 21

As I said, the fuse was fine. I put the cluster back together properly and remembered to reinstall the black pin connector correctly as well. Is there a relay or something that could be the problem I wonder? The odometer and trip meter are both out as well.

Try replacing the entire si board. I swapped batteries and still had the same issue.

looks like that's my next step... sucks. I'd like to get an updated SI board anyways, but ughhh, don't want to pay that much.

If you have the right model of cluster you can delete the SI board and use a jumper between two terminals to get everything to work right. Saw a thread on here about it but I don't have a link I'm afraid.

e: just noticed the year, this won't work for ya :(
