    Rearview Mirror

Alright so my drivers side door lock was frozen and I was in a hurry to get out to work so i managed to unlock my passenger lock and climbed across the center console. In doing so I managed to knock my shoulder into my rearview mirror. I am having a very hard time putting it back into the slot. Is there a simple way to do this? I honestly tried hitting it with a hammer and it still didnt go on. Im afraid im going to break the slot or the mirror...

    Thanks,
    Andrew

It's got a very strong spring that pops in to the roof. Either push very hard or take a punch and hammer to the base of it to pop it in.

I was afraid youd say that. Alright, I guess I'll have to give it a try after I get off work today.

      Thank you,

what I did was use 2 zip ties, and then pushed the spring together with some channel locks, stick a zip tie in between the spring and the frame of the mirror, that should make the little tabs about 1/8" closer together, making the fit into the car frame much easier. then just yank on the zip ties and it should be good

                How did it go?

Both jrobie79 and ///digitalme gave you accurate information. Be patient so you don't break anything and it will pop back into place.

The idea is to relieve the pressure of the spring from the pointy tabs on each end of the retaining mechanism. Then the mirror can be fitted into it's mounting and the zip ties removed to release the spring tension to hold the mirror in place. I found it quite difficult to get the mirror in the mount far enough to hold and still access the zip ties to cut and remove them.

You could also try inserting one end (one of the tabs) into the mount and prying the spring or other tab back far enough to allow that second tab to snap into place. You got it off by just applying pressure. Theoretically, it could be reinstalled similarly but I found it impossible to exert enough force to do so.

Patience my friend. If you become frustrated, stop and return another time. Wouldn't want to break it. Yet, it really is somewhat of a miracle when it finally snaps back into place. That'll teach you to be more careful when climbing around in your car!

Haha thanks, but patience isnt something I have too much of. The other problem is there is a steering wheel and a gear shift in my way when I am trying to do this. I have been tempted to pull the headliner off but I know ill regret that.. Ill give it another go. Thanks for the help. I wont post here anymore unless I get it in :D
