    E30 driver seat in trouble..

    Hey everyone,

I am new to E30s (just got mine last weekend!), and I am already in love. The thing about the one I have, however, is that the drivers seat upholstery is a bit tattered in places. I was wondering, what would be the best remedy for this? I checked out seat covers..but thought it would look kind of lame to have the front two seats with covers, and the back seat original. I am not too techy, so I'm not sure if I have the know-how to take the seat out and re-upholster it myself, so that might be out of the picture..

Anyway, any idea of what I could do to fix this? Thanks a lot for any help.

What type of seat do you have? comfort or sport?

i would look around for a good passenger seat as they tend to hold up better. then transfer the upholstery to the drive side. As I have learned (from the great td325ic), the process is pretty straight forward provided you have hog rings and pliers (or even zip ties). However, if you have a comfort seat, it's even easier as the upholstery on those seats are simply slipped on over the frame from the factory

I am pretty sure they are comfort, so that is good news! Any chance I could just find that upholstery that they slip over the seat? Or is that pretty tough to find? If not I'll have to keep an eye out for a seat to buy and strip then :D

I would go to the junk yard. Get an entire seat for $20 bucks and just take your time taking it apart and knowing how they work. The upholstery on comfort seats are slipped over the frame and and poked through protruding spikes to keep them on so watch your hands. Comfort seats are a 2 piece upholstery (not including the headrest) in regards to the bottom and backrest. Sport seats are a 6 piece design which is more time consuming to put on but very rewarding

Ah, thanks a lot for your help! I'll have to stop by some yards and see what they have. Would really love to do some hands on, so this would probably be a great opportunity. And for the price, can't beat it! Thanks again man

I credit Todd (td325ic) for this knowledge. He was my mentor for my any sort of affordable restoration. I highly suggest you check out his posts as they are very informative. Key thing I learn is patience and you will get a incredible interior for an amazing price.

I know this is an old post...but can someone link me to his instructions? I am doing this for the first time on a sport seat for my 325is.
