OK that is epic! I know what I'm getting tomorrow. By the end of the week everything but my headliner and dash will be in great shape.1991 325i - "Scambles" The Daily Driven lightly modded.

I opted to take the upholstery off of a nice passenger seat and install it onto my beat up driver's seat. This also gave me a chance to reinforce my bolsters where one of the welds had broken.
If you bolt a passenger seat onto the driver's side, you will end up with all the controls for that seat next to the center console and it will be difficult to adjust, not to mention looking odd.
Spend the time to do it right and you'll be much happier in the end. It's not too hard to do the upholstery but it can be a bit tedious. I would suggest buying a pair of hog-ring pliers. It will make it a lot easier. I didn't but I wish I had.

it can be done i did it. it was just a major pain in my ass. try to save as many hog rings as you can. you can remove them without cutting them (cutting them is pretty hard) but holding them with wire cutters and twisting.
i say this because i found out you cannot buy hog rings anywhere at all unless you buy them online. and it's hard to get sizing perfect.
also everything has to be swapped. you can't even use the back from the good seat because the tilt is on the wrong side. unless you have a sedan. then you might be able to just skip redoing the back and only need to do the bottom of the seat.
here's a diy that helps you take them apart. it's just one of many
