How much leather dye? Where to buy?

    Hey guys,
I was going to get my seats re-uphosltered, but considering my budget, I will be trying to bring my sport leather seats back to life.

What I'd like to know, before I order, is how much leather dye I may need to re-dye all seats (front and rear seats, convertible 325i).

At this point I am reconditioning the leather. Next step will be to clean up and fill some cracks. After that, I'll gently sand the seats and then re-dye. I'll do all the seats completely.

I will be re-dying them using the same (or similar) indigo blue dye (293 code). I'll do the first two coats with a sponge or a rag, then I'll use a small spray gun.

So, how much dye do I need to buy to re-dye all seats of a 325 vert? How much finishing product?

Where to buy good leather dye? Leatherique vs Color Plus? Any other sites? Perfect match in color is not really important since I am doing the entire seats altogether.

Im completely unexperienced, and this will be my first project regarding trying to bring me seats back to life. So, any comment/advise/tips will be much appreciated! Thanks a lot in advance!

I'd say 16oz would be more than enough to do the front seats and rear if you were to apply it all by hand.

Spraying though, you'll use it up much quicker because a lot goes in the air. So I'd recommend 32oz so you can be sure to have enough.

The leatherique rejuvinating oil does work well. After applying you'll want to wrap the seats in plastic to get good penetration.

For the dye, I like SEM's Sure Coat. Or you can try these guys, their dye is high quality and they already have it color matched : http://www.classicdyeproducts.com/

Whether you use SEM or Classicdyeproducts, I'd pick up the crosslinker for extra durability.

Re-dying the seats isn't too hard. Do some reading on this guy's blog. He has a lot of good articles, look on the right under "tags" fror the links to the articles. http://theinteriorguyllc.com/

One quick question: will the dye give a good coverage on top of the filler using a sponge or a rag? I read that areas in which filler was used will get better dyed over using a spray gun.
