    Trunk Liner Removal?

I don't like how the trunk liner that wraps around the edges looks. It also feels cheap to me and makes me feel like there is a huge piece of trash in my trunk.

    Anyone removed it?

    Replaced it?

I'm eventually going to do wood floor in the trunk and was thinking having wood sidewalls around the trunk would look real clean as-well.

    Pictures would be awesome.

    Thanks

Yea I just ripped mine out. It's just metal underneath it so it's not so pretty.

Yeah figured it wouldn't be too pretty underneath. Is there any way you could take a picture?

It'd be nice to see how it looks without it so I can get some ideas on how I would redo it.

Will, are you speaking of the "trunk tar"? Because the 318is doesn't have that thank goodness.

              Gentlemen, FYI:

That trunk tar is NOT sound deadening, no matter what it says on the Internet.

Have you noticed it isn't any noisier with it gone? BMW does not waste time or materials on something so heavy unless it has an important function.

The trunk tar is to adjust the car for proper front/rear weight balance.

You will find ONLY 6 cylinder RWD cars that have a roof have it. M10 AFAIK do not, M42 do not, iX's do not and 'verts do not, Tourings do not.

Never found yet in an M3 either, of course. In fact, I have not found it on any other BMW, but I cannot say I was looking for it either.

Makes me wonder if the M30 cars that were sold in South Africa have more!

Just a quick FYI: I have actually removed and weighed that crap twice: both times it weighed in very close to 57 pounds, like within an ounce or three.

This whole thing is one of the reasons I do the E3010" sub box the way I do. When properly installed it will make your car quieter and it will restore proper weight balance for better handling. Box, woofer and amp typically weigh just about 50Lbs.

how is trunk tar installed from the factory? my buddy has a car with that stuff removed and it shows an ugly primer coat. he wants to now have that stuff re-installed.
