My new seats - hooray for knockoffs - Pics on pg. 2!

These just came via UPS yesterday, I scored them from Permit for a great price. A friend of mine is buying my sport seats from my E30, so I needed to find something low-cost to put in my car once he takes them, and these came along at just the right time, since a deal I had going for a used pair of Corbeaus fell through. I plan to use these until I can afford something a bit nicer, but in the meantime, these are actually not too bad, I rather like them. They look much better in person, the light kind of throws them off a little, makes them look very lightly colored, they're in fact jet black.

They're similar to the ACS and ///M ones that are floating around on ebay, but a little bit better quality. Yes, I agree it's a little silly that they have Recaro stitched on them, but who cares? I sure don't, and those who don't know any better will be fooled :D . Matt325is has the ACS ones in his car, and I thought they were actually pretty comfortable when I rode in them. He's had them for a couple years now, and they're still holding up fine. I just need to fab up some brackets for them, and they'll be good to go.

As soon as Andrew and I get the brackets made. We're going to make really nice ones, do a full write-up of the whole process, and have them powdercoated black.

Certainly not for the price. And they're actually pretty comfortable, too.

I rode in Kruzens car with the similiar seats. IMO, they were more comfortable than the stock sport seats.

Andrew and I are starting the designs for the brackets today, we're going to produce a full write-up on the design and fabrication of the brackets, for those that puchase similar seats. After they're done, I'm going to have them powedercoated black to produce a more OEM finish.

Along with fabricating the brackets for the seats, I'm also custom making my own covers for the reclining mechanisms of the seats themselves. When I bought them, once cover was missing, the other was broken in shipping. They were cheap, thin plastic covers, so I decided I would make my own. A trip to Lowes resulted in exactly what I was looking for:

3 in. wide x 2 in. high x 1/4 in. thick PVC plumbing end caps. I ripped them down to 1 1/4 in. high with a chop saw.

I'll be drilling 2 countersunk holes in each of the caps, and mounting them over the reclining mechanisms of the seats, they fit perfectly. Once I have all the holes drilled and everything fits right, I'll sand them down to remove all the text, imperfections, and what not, and paint them satin black with SEM. More pics to follow as they progress.

That would be kick ass. I need to make brakets and would like to have this write up.

Ok, here's the fucking funny part. It turns out the studs that are already in place on the sliders, are in the EXACT same locations as the stock E30 seat mounting points. So we cut the studs off, knocked them out, drilled out the holes a bit larger, and we're going to be able to mount them straight to the floor of the car. They'll sit about an inch lower than the sport seats, which is great for me, being 6' 1".

The slider looks like this, if you were looking at it straight on: [_]

The bolts that hold the seats down in the rear won't fit in between the walls of the sliders, so we went and got hex-head bolts of the same thread and length, with a head that fits right inside the slider. In the front, since they use a stud and a nut rather than a bolt, the nut won't fit in between the walls of the sliders, so we're going to cut off enough of the walls to fit the nut in, and they'll mount directly to the floor.

We should have them in the car tomorrow, I'll be sure to get a few good pics.
