    flocking a headliner?

Any reason this can't be done? I've got the headliner out of my e34 because it was sagging. I bought some fabric to recover it but having a time trying to get the fabric into the recessed areas. Flocking seems easier and looks like it would turn our better.

Sure, why not, if one can flock a dash one can flock a headliner. However, there might be issues with clearance on the sunroof panel, presuming you are redoing that too. But if you already have good/correct fabric you might to try some more to get it to fit the contours of the grab handles/visor area, just work from the center and stretch/use weights if necessary. Also, don't stress whatever you end up with will look better than before!

Got the kit ordered from Donjer. I tried calling our local upholstry shop to find out what they would charge and they couldn't be bothered to answer the phone. So, I'm going to attempt this myself. I ordered enough to do the rear package shelf as well. I attempted to recover that but it didn't go as well as planned. I'm not messing with the sunroof panel. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Yes please. I am interested in this as well. I have all the Donjer stuff for my dash, and I planned on doing the rear shelf as well (and the glove box). But I have this tan headliner that I would love to be black.

Are you going to pull it out first? Or do it while it's installed?

The rear shelf? I'll pull it out. I have to remove the rear seats anyway to replace my shocks so might as well.

Can you guys post some pics of the parts you've flocked?

It's my first time hearing about this so I'm kinda curious.

If the e30 had a tray style headliner like newer cars you could flock it pretty easily but I believe you'll find it easier to just replace your stock headliner with a black one. ;)

Probably kinda hard to flock the headliner upside down. Its already out of the car.

You got it out without tearing it? I'm impressed!

                          Just finished
                          Before:

Yours probably won't have that marbling effect. That' from the trim adhesive after a failed cloth recover:

                          After:

                          Now I wait.
A couple of suggestions. Buy the big can of adhesive for an E34 headliner. It was enough (I hope) but just barely. I'm glad I bought the extra 3oz back of flock, I had to use a little. If you can spray on the adhesive, do it. It will go a lot quicker. The spray air can for spraying on the flock might not be a bad idea either but the twist tube works fine.

Dont you need a special gun to apply flock? Can you post pics/part numbers/prices?

You don't need a special gun. I got the mini flocking kit with an extra 3oz bag of flock. About $45 shipped. The kit came with a tube to apply it. You can check out the flocking a dashboard thread for a lot more info on flocking.
