    dashboard preservation

Right now I've got a dash with no cracks, perfect condition. I don't think I would be able to stand it if the dashboard ever started cracking, nor do I want to ever attempt trying to replace one. What can I do to insure that my dash always stays flawless while out here in the Texas heat?

The sun is going to be what kills it the most...

A decent window shade for your windshield would be a good start...and I'm sure there are protectants you can apply as well.

I use a product called "aerospace 303" or some number like that. It works well but it was kind of expensive and it leaves the dash a bit shiny, which can cause glare on the windshield. I found it isnt nearly as bad in the e30 as is in my golf.

clean it with the griot's interior cleaner and dress it with the vinyl and rubber dressing. the vr dressing has uv protectant in it and has a matt black finish so that you don't have a shiny armor all finish.

Swapping out a dashboard really isn't that hard, just takes time is all. The best things you can do for your dashboard are very simple. Get a windshield sunvisor, and put it up anytime you aren't in the car, when the car is outside. And find yourself a good protectant. I use Mother's Preserves Protectant, and I treat the dash and all the consoles about 1-2 times per month. There are lots of good ones out there, just ask around.

Any extreme temps are going to cause things to shrink or expand. The only way that I could see the cold cause craking is if you go from real cold to real hot fast. I can't really think of any situation where that would happen with your dash.
