    B-pillar panel vinyl peeling

I have a 318i diamondschwartz sedan, the tan vinyl is peeling off both B-pillar interior panels.

I would rather repair myself...I am thinking gently pry them off with a flathead , apply spray adhesive and wrap while off...existing vinyl looks fine it appears the adhesive has just failed...

    looking for advice.

there are two screws at the bottom that hold the pillar in place. remove those, the upper seat belt mount point and the lower point off the seat, lift up gently to not damage the fragile assed clips, thread the seatbelt through the hole, and reglue the vinyl in place. not to hard.

I learned some things this past weekend.

              1) don't buy general adhesive spray even if that is all they have at the nearest store. it generally doesn't work for this application.

              2) if the panel is already broken, kind of sort of making the vinyl adhere a little better doesn't fix the problem.

              BEFORE REMOVAL

              BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO RE-ADHERE

AFTER RE-ADHERING, FEELING PRETTY GOOD ABOUT IT DESPITE THE RIP IN THE SIDE, DESPITE THE MISSING PANEL PIECE.

OH BUT WAIT, THAT MISSING PANEL PIECE IS IMPORTANT, WITHOUT IT THERE IS NO FRAME FOR THE VINYL. MAYBE THIS CARDBOARD STRIP WILL WORK? UH. NO DICE. A FABRICATOR I AM NOT.

Bottom line, I need to buy a replacement.

Later I can add a pic of what it looks like back in the car. not much better but at least it is not flapping in the wind so much.

Another trick if the material is stiff is to use a heat gun on low heat. That will make the material soft and pliable. Once it cools down it will stay where you form it.

                Cheers,

                Jim
