Removing Headliner - Stuck on Sunroof

I'm in the process of removing the headliner and I'm trying not to wreck anything in the process. I have it free everywhere except the side tracks of the sunroof. I have been following the steps in this pdf:http://www.r3vlimited.com/headliner.pdf

I get to the step "On either side of the sunroof there are
chrome plates that the sunroof slides on. They are held
in with similar Phillips screws. Remove the screws as
to loosen these plates, but do not remove the plates
    yet.
    "

It never seems to pickup how to get the headliner out from under those tracks and I'm hesitant to just start yanking at those parts. I have the sunroof tracks in the vent position with the panel removed so there is at least one screw I cannot get at in this position.

Can I crank on the sunroof with no panel installed to move them or will this get the tracks out of sync?

I think I am over thinking this but I want to get the headliner out intact and not wreck the sunroof in the process, plus I want to get this all put back in.

Any tips from someone who has done this before?

Move the sunroof, get the chrome panels loose, remove the headliner from under them, install new headliner(tucking it where the old one was),secure chrome panels, put sunroof back into vent position, re-install panel.

Thanks, so cranking on the sunroof with no panel installed is ok?
