    Lock problems

Hey guys. Ever since I've had my e30, I've had problems with the driver's side lock, in that it didn't work at all. Central locking doesn't work at all, so I can unlock my car from the inside, or the passenger side. So today I tried to find out what the problem was. No central locking is fine to me, I don't mind much. Opening my driver's side door is important to me. So. I took off the door card and whatnot, per this guide: http://www.billswebspace.com/BMWE30D...derRebuild.htm
And got it all open and the lock out. This is what I found:

The broken part I had to fish out of the bottom of the door. First, I don't know much, but I know that is not the way it's supposed to look, and second, I want to get the locking fixed in my car. I'll need a new lock, and I'll need to put my car back together. I was wondering if any of you have tips to best achieve this? Thanks :)

contact steve blunt at blunt tech. He is a forum sponsor here. Order a driver side door locking rebuild kit from him and find a DIY lock rebuild for the driver's side door lock; they are found on the internet. This is what I did and now I have a fully functioning driver's side door lock and only about half an hour worth of work.

also, check the condition of your latch mechanism. oil it while your in there, at a minimum. one that is starting to get sticky/corroded will cause your lock mechanism to wear out quicker or not work completely.

        rebuild kit ftw.

Its basically a whole new lock, with extra lock wafers so you can key it to your stock key. Its pretty easy, and pretty cheap.
I don't always wreck cars, but when I do I wreck them into trees.
