    Protecting Switch Decals

Finally sourced minty replacements for all my instrument switches (AC, hazards, defrost). I usually clean everything with Vinylex but I've noticed that the white decals on the switches don't like being cleaned and they smear slightly, losing a small layer of paint along with the dirt that's accumulated.

Does anyone do anything to protect their switch decals? I'm considering using Krylon Clear Matte Finish Spray but I'm not sure it will wear well.

Try spraying an old switch and see how it turns out. You might have to pull the switch apart to spray them as the paint might get down between the button and the housing and "glue" it together.

Ive had this smear problem too on my turn signal stalks. Now they just get water and i barely touch them. Had not thought about matte spray though. Let us know how it goes...

I used a satin sealer for some wood projects. Looks sweet don't know how well it would stick to plastic, but it drys fairly quick with 10 mins or so.

This stuff is the bees knees, just in case anyone else is looking. Fantastic for protecting fragile things, very good abrasion resistance. We use it at my sign shop and lots of interior projects.

I went to clean my turn signal stalk and wiped away the high/low beam print on the end. I'm obsessive so I keep my hands clean and use a light touch. My thoughts for protection would be clear vinyl laminate - think "clearbra"

Believe me, there's NO way you want to do a laminate on something that small, that you touch that much. Sealing it in is the way to go without a doubt.
