My e30 is stock I was wondoring if removing my back seats/floor tar would make any noticable differances to the way my car preforms. Will removing this much weight make the car feel any quicker? Also I am thinking of removing my spare tire storage due to weight and the fact you can see it under my car and I dont like that. Any positive reinforcement would be great.
should i remove my rear seats?

Yes, removing 20lbs rear seat will add at least 5HP -
So your going to cut the spare tire well off because you don't like being able to see it...? If you're going to go to all that effort, why not just put the rear apron from a late model on your car instead? Would look much better IMO.
And keep your rear seat in the car, your not going to notice the difference.Comment

Keep the rear seat because it'll look more than dumb without it. And on a stock car you're not gonna notice shit. Ditch the spare tire though. I don't have a spare tire or tools in my trunk. I do however have all the lining and the tow hook. The first car I ever rode in was an e30

no spare tire, lightweight battery, remove trunk tar is by far the best and cheapest way to lose weight. Although i don't recommend driving without a spare on long commute, only for in town driving.Comment

btw, my eta is under 2500lbs, euro bumpers saved couple lbs.Comment

Great advice. I dont really want to remove the seats. I just never use them so if it was worth it they would be gone. Going to probably remove everything in the trunk and lookk into that rear apron. Have the euro rear bumper looking for a front at the moement. . Thanks guys.Comment

If you really don't use them it would be fine to remove them and strip the interior if that's the direction you wanna go with the car. Only do this after other upgrades though, like suspension. The first car I ever rode in was an e30

Yeah, definitely take a saw-zall to that in the trunk spare tire well. while you're at it, might as well get rid of the rear of the roof - it doesn't help power to weight, so you can ditch the rear seat in the process - you also get to do a rear glass delete too, for extra weight reduction, which makes a big difference in how the car was preformed.
Once you get to this point:
the car may be so light you actually need to ADD weight back in to keep the 50:50 balance! How cool is that? If you need it, you can throw some bottlecaps in the bed, which is now lacking the spare tire well, so you'd have a flatter underside which helps reduce drag - might even add a few MPG on the highway.
Just don't forget to pull the carpet, or you'll end up with a stinky mess the first time it rains.

If you mod the car past being practical it will not be a car you will want to own long term which will lead to its slow and eventual death. It may be cool for a while to mod an e30 for the fads but you will tire of it as you mature and your life changes over time. That is a big bummer for enthusiasts a decade from now drawing from an ever decreasing pool of viable e30's. How often do you see an e21 on the road? Know why? Just look at how many nice original 2002's exist in the world, not many as most were neglected by just one wayward owner in its 40 years which killed the car or caused it irreversible damage and probably killed an e21 along the way for a 5speed tranny. Keep your car well maintained, clean and OEM+ and it will last another 25 years and continue to be enjoyed and cared for by several future owners. If you want to go faster attend an autocross and learn about how to drive faster I guarantee you will be 15% slower than what your car is capable of.Comment
