    Question about lighted shift knobs

My dad wants a lighted shift knob for his M, but they are like 100 bucks from the dealer, and pretty much everywhere else.

Can I use a regular leather knob and make the led and connector fit? Do I need the insert for the lighted knob?

pretty sure you would need the insert for the lighted knob. Just get the OEM one it will look better

anyone know the part number for the lighted shiftknob insert ?
I might try making one of these, but I don't like the transparent ruler idea.

actually if you look in one of accessorie catalogs for older model bmw's its like 42 bucks for the lighted knob without an insert and like 7 bucks for the insert. with your cca discount it should be like 43 bucks.

Well, if it were for me, Id make my own, but I dont need my shift knob to light. I went ahead and bought the "real" one. They feed the wires right through the stitching so its pretty stealth. There is just no way its worth 99.50 though.
