Hey all,
So I just got my e30 around 4 months ago, and I have finally had some time to sit down with it and write down all the things that need a little work. The driver's seat was one of them, but "fortunately", the guy that I had bought it from gave me the old driver's seat (the new one was in there), as well as the matching passenger's seat. So essentially, I have 2 broken driver's seats, and 2 working passenger's seats.
So anyway, I took the seat out and took the covers and the back off to get a better look at what might be wrong. If you saw my post about a little plastic chip, you already know what this is about.
The seat had a problem with the back. It would slant to one side, and the slanted side would be shaky, and wouldn't lower or raise properly. I figured it might be something that has slipped out of place or that something was loose. But it turns out that the arm thing that supports the back is slanted back. Not only that, but the little metal part that the back screws into has snapped off! Anyway, I saw the crooked back arms and figured the other one might have straight ones, so I could compare. HOWEVER.. the other seat has the EXACT same problem! :cockbloc: Even the same metal attachment thingy is broken! I played around with it for a little while, but I couldn't get the arm to come off (safely), or more/realign.
My guess is this problem isn't uncommon, but it's apparently rare enough that my novice forum skills can't find it. Does anyone know what I can do about this? Can the arm be readjusted or replaced? Or should I not bother and start saving for a new seat? And secondly, can that little metal piece be taken off? It looks like its riveted in there, and I'm curious if there's a way to take it off and put a new, intact one on.
I have some pictures attached to make up for my minimal car seat technical knowledge.
