I wanted to use autometers "cobalt" line of gauges, otherwise an 8K tach would have been enough.
Here come the flames...My gauge cluster

I like it. My eyes are very sensitive and blue lights are more soothing to look at IMO.Originally posted by autoxguy305I wanted to use autometers "cobalt" line of gauges, otherwise an 8K tach would have been enough.
Suggestion on the tach gAuge, turn it so the redline is straight up and down. Easier to see your redline and shift point.
Good job otherwise.

I'm with Charlie - I really couldn't believe some of the shit I was reading. Blue=ricer? Ok guys.Originally posted by CharlieLooks clear enough with nice functional gauges and a big tach right in front of you.
I really don't understand where all the hate for this is coming from.
Yea, the blue looks like it belongs in a fox body, oh well.

Anyways, I think it's fucking cool. Yes, our stock clusters do fine. Yes, you can just do an m3 cluster upgrade for more functionality and cool factor.
But he chose to do something different. I love the cobalt gauges, and think they look amazing together the way you have them. I like the fact that the tach is huge - sort of like in the minis. Yes, having it max at 8k would have been better, but Cobalt doesn't come like that. Oh fuck well.
Your car is tastefully done, outside and in. And the different cluster will really catch people's eye, as well as give you something to look at every time you get in the car and say, wow, I made that, it's different, I like it.
Fuck the haters. I love the amber/red of our cars, only because I'm chin-deep in BMW obsession, and I've got it programmed in my head that it's the best color. But I definitely love the cobalts and new veedub gauges, and think you did a great job pulling them off.
Man, I'll tell you, for a board of people driving cars that everyone who doesn't own one hates, we've got a lot to say about each other. Might I remind you all that we're driving 20+ year old cars, and not a lot of people respect that, nor see the point?Comment

I'm planning on building one of these soon but using VDO Cockpit series gauges.

Hey now,my fox body is sportin' amber gauges:) ... I think this set-up looks good. I probably would have gone with a different layout and, like stated before, a tach that suited the RPM range of the car, overall it looks good though.. But it's your car, so if you think it looks good, that's all that REALLY matters, after all, no one else is spending money on it for you....

I will probably doing a similar project for the 335i with a sheet of 1/8" Dragonplate CF laminate. I wonder how many gauges I can fit in there if I use a slightly smaller than stock Tach and speedo.....'88 528e /// '88 M5 /// '89 951 /// '98 E430 /// '02 M5Comment

I think it looks great and I have to say that I started looking at making my own cluster because my speedo went I have to say that an electronic speedo is a major pain if it is not working. I got lucky and fixed it.
