Hey I'm currently cannibalizing a sport seat to replace the ripped sections of my upholstery on the ones I use in my car, and I just realized that the struts on my passenger seat in the car are blown. When I adjust the seat it just falls back into the passenger seat if there's any weight on it. I have two pairs of sport seat struts laying around but the seats are disassembled so I'm not sure if they work/which struts are in the best shape etc. Is there an easy way I can test if one of these struts is working or not at home, or should I just throw a random pair in and trial/error it? Thanks.

If you pull the struts out, you can try to compress them. They take something like 100+lbs of force each, so if you can easily push them in then they're junk1990 332i, 4 door

Can confirm this. They range from 350N to 600N of force. Compressing them should require most of the weight of your body. The height and recline shocks are interchangeable if you are salvaging them, though the recline shocks usually use the smaller force.Comment
