New guy here & steering hub question.

Whats up guys, new to r3v but not new to the forum world. I live out in Houston! I drive a 1991 318is i purchased last december for $500 and its been a fun project ever since.

One question, i recently bought a aftermarket steering wheel for the car and the nrg hub that i purchased (SRK E36H) did not fit and neither will the SRK E30H model that nrg has for e30s. Any idea on what hub is correct for my car? The car initially had an airbag steering wheel.

Thanks in advance and looking forward to surfing the thread.

I know from experience that a momo hub will fit perfectly. I've never tried nrg hubs but they should fit also

Yeah i recently purchased a nrg hub from nrg and i tried to install it and it was completely wrong. And i went through some threads and I see everyone uses momo now which model is what i am confused about. Some say 2008 model and some 2006.

There is no momo hub for an airbag e30, you must modify to use the non airbag unit.

Okay, what modifications that would need to be done. Also would momo hub do people get?

my NRG hub fit perfect, however I do not know what model it is. Let me see if I can find the box. What is not fitting about the hub?

If you can find out what the model of your hub is it would be great! I will post a picture tonight. The hole where the steering spindle is supposed to slide and fit into the hub is too big.

put the key in the ignition and remove the steering lock.

The issue im having is that the nrg hub that i have is to big for the steering spindle.

when i went about to order it nrg told me that the SRK-E30H wouldnt fit my car because its airbag equipped and said i needed the SRK-E36H so i went ahead and ordered that. But when you go to order a SRK-E30H which is made for E30s it says that it will fit from years 83-90 not 91 because of the airbag

I checked it out on ebay also here is a link for the SRK-E30H which is made for e30s but it isn't compatible with 1991 e30s

And here is a link to the SRK-E36H model hub which are made for E36 and you check out the computability 1991 bmw 318is is on there.

ill post a pic in a few minutes to show how it wont work

What year is your car and if by any chance if you still have the model number for the hub you used for you car?

                          Thanks

I dont know if you can tell by the pictures but if you look in the center of the hub, the hub just sits on the spindle instead of sliding on and snug.

To add to the confusion - I installed an Mtech I wheel (which fits non-airbag E30's also) on my airbag '91 318is without any issues. I'm not sure why people are saying you need a different hub for an airbag car. Are these pics of the E36 hub or the E30 one?
