There's almost a one inch gap at the very back, seems to seal fine everywhere else for the most part. Need to adjust windows a bit but the front is nice and sealed. I messed with those two hex adjustment screws and they did nothing. Nest of spider webs everywhere now  was parked under a tree, so it's those funky looking spiders too. Bought the car this way in May, blew motor two weeks later, swapping in an m50tu this weekend. Went to change the brake booster yesterday and I almost died. Any other adjustment points to look at? TIA

Its bent near the pivot point, a 2x4 and a little pressure will close the gap.sigpic

Why do you say it's bent versus adjusting? Not doubting you, just curious. When I put the top down, the longest elbows(?) have to rub against the rear of the compartment to close, don't know if this is normal.Comment

This is my 3rd e30, on my last one I added over 400k roughly, sold it with around 550k miles. Only reason I sold the 318is was all wheel bearings were on their way out. I literally almost drove the wheels off that car, loved it. Bought this 318ic soon after because of how reliable and fun the m42 was, but I forgot to tighten the oil pickup and she died two weeks later in may, car has been sitting since. I've been driving nothing but an SUV the last 8 months except for my cousins m3 for a mountain run or two and I feel like killing myself if I'm not driving an e30 before the month is over. I have a bit of OCD, and my FAVORITE thing about the e30 is probably the HVAC and how you can set exactly where the air goes. I want to repaint by this summer, along with MCS coilovers and a new set of wheels. Within a couple years redo the top, interior, and maybe swap in an aluminum short stroke LS with ITB's. Just a little about me and my story. Can you guys tell I miss my car LOLComment

There shouldn't be any rubbing. I have some rubbing but it's because I have a missing screw on one side that allows the top to get out of alignment, I have to pull the arm in when closing. Not normal.
Also, when you lift the rear of the top, make sure it goes up a full 90 degrees. If your elastic straps are old or installed wrong, they won't pull the second crossbar forward, and the rear gets hung up and won't open all the way. You can manually push the bar forward as you lift the rear to allow it to open more.
Start by getting it shimmed to spec, then adjust the hex screws, then let us know.'89 lachssilber vert - Frau Blücher

Same here, I have to pull the arm in manually or else it won't fit shut. Thanks for helping me out guys! I'll get started after the motor is finished up this weekend hopefully.Comment
