    schroth belts

anyone ever put schroth auto control belts in their bmw? the instructions say to tap off of the rear window defroster for your power sorce for the inertia reels. did that but no go? firgot my test light at work , but the defroster works for sure, i used it this morning. what gives ? it would be nice to go off the rear defroster insted of going to the fuse box for keyed power, but i will if i have to.

was the rear defrost turned on, i'm not qutie sure what your trying to achieve with the belts, using the rear defrost as a power source....

with the auto controls you need a switched power source (on with the keys in the on position) schroth suggests that you use the rear window defroster as your power source. off or on it did not disengauge the inertia reels. basically the autocontrols are 3 point harness that use an intertia reel at the rear most mounting point (as opposed to a perminate bolt) and a seperate sensor that must be leveleed when mounted in the car. the sensor locks up the belt along with when the power source is cut. inorder to get the belts to connect to the reel you need to give them power, the rear defroster seemed like a strange place to take it from , but that what the manufacture suggested. i think i am going to just run a wire from a switched power source at the fuse box then through a switchin the dash so i can lock them up if i want to (they are low amps using a 5 amp fuse inline. just wondering if anyone had installed them as per the factory suggestions.
