check panel question

hey guys, not a real big fan of the check panel on my 87 vert... Doesn't seem to work right anyway.. So what I'm wondering is if anyone has done a delete for it... Actually what im really looking to do is put a new dome light in like maybe from a e34 or something... Any insight would be nice.

This guy used one out of a Chevy truck, I know the pictures are not in the thread anymore. But I do recall it looking good. It's an alternative to putting something in the check panels place.
