Door lock issue, 85 318i

The car is an 85 318i coupe, United States, manual locks, no central locking, etc

My key works normally for my trunk, passenger door, glove box, and ignition. On my driver's door, my key will unlock the door normally but if I go to lock the door, the key turns but the door doesn't lock. I've looked at the rods in the door and everything looks normal.

I'm a novice when it comes to locks and keys, so what should my next move be?

Have you rebuilt the lock cylinder? It's not hard, takes about an hour.

I had a similar problem, lock works great now that I did this. I do have central locking but that shouldn't be an issue.
