89 sun roof will not open/close, whats wrong?

My 89 325i coupe with electronic/power sunroof would not close.
I was able to manually close it.

Now, I took the headliner panel off to check out the roof motor. The motor will respond to the button but just clicks once and doesn't move, like its stuck.

Would just replacing the motor solve my issue or is it some other component of the sunroof???

The motor will turn the gears but slowly when I pull it out but then installed it will not move and the large nut/crank in the motor just makes a click like its stuck

I have no issues with it when manually closing/opening it.

How long has it not been working? I recently bought an 88 and the sun roof was stuck too. I would have to press down from the top, to do have it fully open and from the inside, I was would have to assist the roof by sliding, then pushing up for the tilt. Then I took the whole thing apart. I applied wd40 on all the rails and a big thing I noticed was that the material underneath the roof, was misaligned with the guide rails. It's extra work, but disassembly the whole roof was the only thing I has to fully diagnose it. PM if you have questions, I can try to help!

Thanks, I will prolly see if my import mechanic buddy can check it out while I have him looking over the suspension.
It was working one morning then I got it home and tried to close it and it wouldn't shut. So the I manually closed it.
