screw dimesions for power e30 sunroof motor

Ok so my e30 coupe has a sunroof and the previous owner converted it from manual to power. It stopped working and I noticed that the current screws are too long and that might be the issue. (the literally have poked through the roof skin)

Can someone post the screw specs/dimensions for a e30 sunroof motor?

Only thing I can find is to use 1.5 inch sheet metal screws but that seems too long still.

I picked up the proper screws and the motor is very snug BUT it still doesn't work. Will just click once and not open the sunroof.
I can tilt, open and close the sunroof manually with a torex bit.
The motor works but wont spin anything. Not sure if I should order a new motors or what?
I can hand open and close it so the point of failure must be the powering mechanism in the motor?
