    cheap eBay sport seats?

I desperately need some cloth seats for my convertible. The black leather is completely un-workable in Las Vegas in the summertime. 115F plus sun + black leather + no top = can't drive the car.

So, I'm willing to try the el cheapo cloth sport seats from eBay even if they don't last that long. But I'm not sure how they would install. Do aftermarket seats have standard mounting dimensions, or are they all different? Would the slider adapters available on this forum work? Are aftermarket sliders available?

Walk me through the obstacles and problems using really small words.

One of my friends, also here on r3v, has some generic aftermarket seats in his 318is. I would pm him about it. Hang on while I find him...

    Edit:
    His screen name is 16v_e30

ive had a set in my e36 a while ago
-not very comfortable. some kind of seam mid back was sticking out so far it felt like it was pushing into my back.
-i had to make custom brackets to make it even fit.
        -they ripped right away.
-they aren't made very well. obviously for the price.
-not to mention they flexed a heck of a ton.

Seeing as you have relatively desirable seats in your car already, why not get some nice seat covers for summer.

I used to keep a towel in my miata to throw over the seat/console when it was parked in the sun. Then I started just pulling the top back up but not bothering to latch it (easy with the miata's light manual top).

Another trick I learned from an old lady with a Saab 9-3 convertible with a slow power top is to lean the seat forward, into the steering wheel, whenever you leave it parked with the top down to keep the sun off it.

There are lots of options that are more economical than buying cheap, uncomfortable, and potentially unsafe seats.

Find someone with stock cloth sport seats that wants to trade you for your seats.

Thanks to all for the reality check. The current seats are beautiful, and I would keep them anyway for winter use and eventual resale of the car. Already use the other survival methods mentioned, I guess I'll invest in some good canvas slip covers. But DAMN they are hot.

Next idea: What are my options for cloth sport seats that are better made and where does the pricing start? I wouldn't mind OEM sport seats but they're pretty much impossible to find in really nice shape. The aftermarket seat thread(s) has a lot of obsolete information on discontinued models. Would want something that didn't scream "Civic."

Recaro LS-B cloth seats from a VW are hard to beat. Adapters are needed but overall cost can be reasonable. Another option is sheepskins for the stock seats.
