they are recaros. there were two types that they made for european cars as an option in the mid/late 80's early 90's. the first is the VW type (or most commonly found in VW's) they had a only a few sewn in pleats and were refered to as trophy seats. you could find them in 16v cars. they also had a solid type bottom w/o the leg extension like the ones in the pic. i have a pair of these in my 325i that i had redone and the rear seat matched, they are a little wider than sport seats and a tight squeeze around the center console. the second type are the ones you have in your pic, they were found in BMW's, cossie escorts, and as an option in early 944's and as a complete interior option in 924's with matching door panels.

They look like sport seats out of a convertible because of the horizontal stitching and small lift forward handle to clear thicker door pillar that were redone and had the bolsters puffed up a little.
