Is there a manual convertible release handle that won't break?

So when I bought my vert a few months ago the convertible release handle was broken. No problem, I bought a replacement. While replacing it I was kind of surprised that the pivot point was plastic but whatever. Well the replacement worked for about 2 months and now it's broken in the same exact spot. I'm pretty gentle with the car so before I order another POS replacement, surely someone has an upgraded version of this handle for sale right? Do you guys just replace them as needed? I know it's just a passenger handle flipped, I could grab a few from the junk yard but it would be nice to not have to replace these things so often? I read somewhere early ones were metal. Are the OEM ones metal?

We are talking for the boot correct? If you press down slightly on the boot while pulling the handle it won't break. Or try adjusting the tension on the catches.

Thanks for the tip. I thought about adjusting it, it doesn't seem like there is a lot of tension now, but that is a good call. If I can loosen it a bit more maybe that will help.
