I swapped in a 9/10 dashboard this weekend to replace my original dashboard that had 3 very large cracks. I followed the Chris Deagan guide and one other e30tech write up, both of which helped immensely.
However, there was one part left out of these write-ups: unplug everything, but remove the dashboard with the most of the wiring intact.
This may be obvious to a lot of you, but the wire harness plugs are large and hard to wiggle through the venting. By unplugging what I could to the left of the steering column, I got to avoid jamming the plugs through a small opening and got the benefit of running most of the wiring through the new dash while it was out of the car.
