    vapor barrier?

i pulled the door card to rebuild the lock core and the door's vapor barrier is pretty shot.

any suggestions on what to use to secure a new vapor barrier inside the door? this part # 83190153321 looks like the real thing, but i was wondering if anyone could suggest anything cheaper.

also, and anyone see any problems with using some plastic sheeting, like you'd put down for painting? or got another suggestion?

    thanks, r3v.

    For butyl tape:

You can also get it at most automotive stores and home improvement stores.

And I don't see why any old plastic sheeting wouldn't work. I'd try and find the thickest you can as a lot of that stuff is pretty thin.

Ah, perfect. Thanks for the suggestion.

And yeah, I was thinking the thicker of the sheeting. Think I've got some that's like 4 or 6 mil.

i couldn't find it on realoem, reason for one of my original questions about using painting sheeting.

i didn't know if it was one of these:

doesn't seem like it wouldn't be color specific, but maybe. all my cars have had clear mangy dirty old vapor barriers.

from what I was reading over on e30tech, the brown dirt was at somepoint a foam sound barrier. Yea I can tell which part number is the clear plastic cover...http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E3...running_meter/

Shower curtain would be too easy haha.

FWIW, mine was shot and ratty. I replaced it with Tyvek I had laying around. Tyvek is a construction house wrap that breathes, but blocks water vapor. Used Tyvek tape to attach it to the doors, didn't have any Butyl laying around.
