I'm 6'2" with a pretty tall torso (I only have a 32" inseam). I have an 88 iX with the stock Sport Seats. I really like the seats (they're really comfortable and hgoldf me pretty well) and am torn between reskinning them or getting different seats. Let me explain:
Normal driving isn't bad but leaves me with less than a fingers width of room to the roof. The main problem is when autocrossing the car with a helmet on, my head does not fit in any normal position. I have to cock my neck into the sunroof divot (pretty uncomfortable) or recline my seat substantially (uncomfortable and I lose some control of the car to some extent). Planning to run more events isn't really possible because I think it's borderline unsafe. I love autox and this is also my only car.
Has anyone cut foam out of the seat or modified the seat adjustment rails to gain maybe an inch or two of headroom? Or am I better off getting some different buckets? I've searched around and haven't found if cutting foam completely ruins comfort or if it's fine. In fact I haven't seen anyone's attempt at it.
Thanks in advance
(PS yes I've lowered the seat adjustment as much as possible)
