That's sounds pricey even by New Jersey prices. I got a quote from 2 reputable shops to reupholstered TWO front sport seats in Cardinal- high quality German vinyl at $750/each. That's way more work than just the back part of the rear seat.

This is the kit I just got from ninestitch, I'm positive he can help you out for much less, and this kit is perfect. The rear seat was easy as could be too!

I'll reupholster your whole interior including visors for that much in Cardinal Red vinyl if you were local to me.

If it's hard and brittle, it probably was leather. Vinyl / marine vinyl doesn't deteriorate with age like leather does and E30 seats show that off pretty good.
The majority original great condition seats you'll find will be vinyl!

Hey give my cousin a try. I don't know how much he charges but you can try him. He redid my whole interior. I helped him out the whole time too. The back seat is not hard. His name is Brittan and tell him blake sent you.

              His number is (770) 686-2692
