Course Thread wheel in post 85 e30

    Hey guys,
I just picked up a wheel from an M1 in super good shape. I was wondering if it is possible to fit it into an e30.

I have heard some scary stories of people putting fine thread wheels on course thread cars and the wheel gets stuck on it forever. Could that be the same case here, or would the steering lock just not work.
    Thanks!

Nope, won't work. The only thing you could put that on would be an early E28.

        "coarse"

And anything's possible with the right tools and fabrication skills, or with deep enough pockets.

Hahaha thank you. My bad-- posted pretty late. I was thinking about sleeving it, but that sort of destroys the wheel in a way. Not sure what I wanna do. Keep it until I get a 2002 or something else like that or sell it. I love the feel of it though. For enough I think I will sell it.

I don't have my tools with me so I can't try to put it on, but is it simply because it won't fit on the spline, or is it that the steering lock will interfere?

The splines won't work. It'd be like trying to thread a coarse nut onto a fine bolt.

              Sorry to be a parade-rainer : (

With enough time and a file I'll get it to work!

Unless I'm missing something (which I'm sure I am), why not take the upper column from an early E28 and use that? Maybe some cutting/welding involved, but probably the easiest solution.

Yea, that is exactly what I was thinking. I have a NRG quick-release hub, and I was thinking I could just get a little steel circle, cut the six holes in it to fit it to the hub (luckily the hub is low profile so this won't add too much length), and weld on the splined part of a coarse thread steering column. It'll end up adding about 3 inches, but when I was holding everything up to picture it all, it felt pretty good. I'll hopefully get this done in the following weeks, so stay tuned. haha. It all just depends on how quickly I can get ahold of the coarse thread piece.
