    Steering wheel stitching coming undone

I have the original motorsport leather-wrapped steering wheel in my iS, and the stitching is coming undone...I left it for a while but now it's undone halfway around the top of the steering wheel and it's unsightly.

I'm sure other steering wheels have had this problem...I'm wondering if anyone has re-stitched their before, and how you did it? I was thinking about taking the wheel off and just fooling around with it, but I figured I should ask the experts first :)

Also I did search for this topic and came up with nothing, if I missed a thread about this I apologize and would appreciate it if you could direct me there.

    Thanks!

i have it starting too. I put a cover on in the timebeing in order to prevent direct contact with the leather

sorry I wasn't sure where to put it...thanks!

I'm thinking I might take it off so I can have a better look at how it's stitched, and then check out how strong the leather is...if it's not in danger of ripping where the stitch holes are, I might pick up some waxed thread or, even better, some really fine leather cord, if such a thing exists. I doubt I'll find any leather "thread" if you will but I think the waxed thread would give it some texture and good grip for sure.

I will let you know if I attempt it...then if it works and looks good you all can send your unstitched steering wheels to me to fix, because we all know none of you guys would be caught dead doing something so close to SEWING :p

No biggie about posting in the right place. Now to add something usefuil to the thread....

I know Andrew (NitroRustlerDriver) recovered a steering wheel a while back that turned out very nice. Maybe send him a PM for some help. I think his parents are uphosterers(<---bad sp) or something.
