    Design Needed: Custom Seat Brackets

Does anyone have pics or a write up for fabricating custom seat brackets? I'm mostly curious about what type of steel bars to use i.e. Flat bar, Angle Iron or square tube bar.

How did you (or your fabricator) make yours?

When Josh and I made his, we used 1"x1/4" strap steel. Then we bent it into a shape like _/---------\_ only with the angles at 90º. That was for the front. The rear we just used a un-bent flat piece. On each end of course we drilled holes where they would bolt to the floor o the stock mounts and then just welded them to the seat slides. You could bolt them instead however.

We also made L-shaped brackets that the seat belt receptacles would bolt too. They just mounted to the rear inside mount on the floor.

If he doesn’t post in here, give Josh a PM. I think he has pictures of all of it.

What seats do you want to put in? If you give me the dimmensions of the seat sliders, I'll draw you up a diagram in CAD of the brackets you'll need to make.

I see how you did it. I have 1.25" x 1/4" flat bar in my shop which I'll use.

I probably won't weld the sliders to the front and rear brackets. I'll weld two connecting pieces between the front and rear brackets and then bolt the seat sliders either to the front and rear brackets or to the connecting side pieces (depending on the slider bolt hole dimensions).

That would be great if you could draw it up in CAD. The slider dimensions are: 14.5" in length, Bolt holes on each slider from center of hole to center of hole are 11". For both front and rear Right slider center of bolt hole to left slider center of bolt hole is 15 3/4".

      Do these dimentions make sense?

      Thanks Nitro!

Ok, cool. Do you have the measurements for the bolts in the floor? If not, I will need to go measure Josh's car tonight.

Either way, I should be able to draw it up real quick tomorrow afternoon.

center of rear bolt to center of forward bolt: 15 5/8" (same for both sides)

center of forward left bolt to center of forward right bolt: 17" (same for rear)

I was just drawing the brackets up and realized that I might have misunderstood you/you misunderstood me. Are there cross braces on the sliders, or not? If not, where you going to weld some to it?

I drew them so they would just bolt at the outside edges to the sliders, but the holes that bolt to the floor were to close to the holes that bolt to the sliders. There was not enough clearance for both bolts. They would need to be closer to the center, meaning there would need to be cross braces.

Also, do you want them mounted as low as possible, or do you have a height that you want? If you want them a specific height, I need to know how tall the seat is from the bottom of the sliders to the top of the seat cushion and how far you want the seat cushion to be off the floor.

Thanks for doing this Nitro. This is what I had in mind:

I would like them mounted low as possible.

I used a template very similiar to the one seen here.
I actully welded them to a set of E30 sliders.

Works great for my corbeau trs seats.
Height can be a problem. You will want to mount them as low as possible.
Im 5' 6" and if I were any taller I would have some trouble.

Good to hear that my design isn't totally out of wack. What do you mean when you said that you "welded them to a set of E30 Sliders"? What did you weld to the sliders? the cross pieces?

Are you interested in making a bracket for side-mount racing seats or bottom-mount seats?
