Seat question related to my diabetes

    Hi all,

So I've got leather comfort seats in my E30 now which are fine, but the driver's seat is starting to tear and both are very hard and not, well, comfortable. The go-to swap is sport seats but A. I've used them and find them even less comfortable and B. I've repeatedly broken the holder for my insulin pump on the side bolster entering and exiting the car.

Can I change the foam/padding of a comfort seat at all to soften it some and add a tiny bit of support? I know nothing about the seats' construction so I don't know if that's a dumb question.

What other seats exist that look period-correct (I'm keeping the car as original-looking as possible with regard to modifications) while adding comfort and support over old comfort seats?

    Thanks!

    -Mike

if you take the skins off you can add padding. Just go to a Michael's or Joann's or whoevers craft store near you and pick up some padding 1/2 or 3/4 or 1 inch thick.. depending on what fits and what you want. Buy all three and then see what fits best in your car.

You'll want to find a diy on how to take the seats apart but it's really not that hard. Then once you pull the skins off just use fabric spray glue to attach the padding you bought at the craft store to the original padding.

When I redid my sport seats last year the guy who sold me the kit attached new foam padding and they're 100% more comfortable now

it's a Kenny Powers quote on wheels

Good to know! I'll probably have to replace at least one cover when the time comes, since the driver's seat is juuust starting to tear. It's good to know there's a little room for reshaping! Would you say it's possible in the seat pad and the back, or just one or the other?
