Re-skinning e30 shift knob with new leather

Anyone ever done it? I have a sneaking suspicion the knob is all glued together.

I have some spare ultra suede I would want to use. Mine is all torn up.

I did a knob like this:

Under the leather there are grooves for the seams. I found making it a tiny bit small and then stretching it into place resulted in the smoothest fit. I also glued the bottom edge to the shift knob body to keep it from rolling up or flaring out.

Oh, to take it apart, pop the logo out, then there should be a single screw holding a plate in the top. Then unpeel the leather and pull it off the bottom.

k thanks! i also have a silver trim ring on the bottom. it seems glued in.

These shift knobs are so expensive. would be nice if i can recover mine. I've done a few audis, but they came apart much easier
