Factory Lighted Shift Knob

I have the e46 m3 lighted shift knob and I just picked up a real carbon fiber shift knob. Is there a way to transplant the lighted part of the other knob into my new one or does anyone know where the write-up for doing it is?

I haven't weighed it but its about the same as my e46 m6 lighted one. I bought it b/c eventually the leather on my m3 one would wear out. The carbon is gonna last a while ;)
