Black Carpet?

I used this for my rear deck too but the carpet fabric became very hard. Was this the case for others? I'm wanting to dye my beige carpet black but if it becomes hard like the deck I'm thinking against this, or will it loosen up over time? Any experiences?

When I did mine I did a light coat, and then brushed it vigorously with a dish scrub brush. Rinse and repeat for three or four coats.

I too believe multiple coats and brushing in between is the key to it turning out decent.
