How do you remove the industrial glue under the seats easily?

I'm stripping my car for weight reduction and want to get rid of the yellowish glue that's under the rear seats since it looks disgusting. I've been trying to remove it with a heat gun and a plastic scraper to no avail. Just wondering if anyone has done this before and knows the best technique.

Note: I'm not talking about the sound deadening as that is already removed. Just the glue all over where the backrest of the seat would be.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

My '89 didn't have any glue there when I stripped it. Maybe a PO put it on.

Huh. It's everywhere on mine. I wonder why anyone would do that since they seemed secure without it. Any ideas anyways?

So someone must have done that for a while and then put the rear seats back in. Probably when transferring from one owner to another. The only suggestions I find for removing that glue is acetone or gasoline but both of them could screw up the metal if I'm not careful. Any other ideas?

Neither acetone nor gasoline will screw up the metal.
