Basket Weave Seat Covers and Door Cards

    Thoughts on this idea....

I have two sport seats that I will be swapping into my burgundy 1986 325E coupe that will HAVE to be recovered. One is vinyl and the other leather, both black. While the vinyl one is in really nice condition and I could probably just recover the center sections and not the bolsters, the leather one will have to be recovered to match the vinyl and also because the leather is pretty well cracked.

My idea is to recover the center sections of the seats in a black vinyl simulated basket weave material. Also to add the same material on the center areas of the door cards. I can source the real deal woven leather but, it is cost prohibitive for this type of project. I was even thinking the grommets wouldn't look bad in silver.

I got the idea while watching a YouTube video about Singer redesigned Porsche 911s.

    Opinions?

Those 911s are works of art. The attention to detail is amazing.

The basket weave material is designed for upholstery so maybe it is just a matter of ordering some and trying it out on the door panels first.
