Squeak and drag in steering column

My steering column developed a squeaky clicky noise and intermittent drag over the last couple of days.
I pulled the wheel and lower shroud and verified that it wasn't anything at the top of the column or related to the column lock.

As I lie in the footwell (with the engine running) and turn the wheel, I can hear the squeaks and clicks, but can't tell where inside the tube they're coming from.

I @$$ume that the column bearing(s) just took a dump.
    Per RealOEM, that's PN 32311158686, #10/11

    Comments, thoughts?
Anyone have as similar problem that was something else?

I observed the steering upper steering u-joint from above while my dad spun the wheel back and forth and the column made the noise. The upper joint appears to be fine, and not where the noise is coming from. I didn't put much effort into observing the lower joint because the noise clearly isn't coming from there.

And of course it does this when I have a track day tomorrow.
