    Rear Speaker shelf

This is just a minor thing but man does it drive me nuts i hate the big square third tail lense so this is my question.

I want to go from this (best i could find sorry):

    To this:

Now what modifications would need to be done to get the 89+ carpeted third tail lense into place and fuctional?

    Any help would be nice.

    TIA

just take off the 3rd brake light, open the housing, i think 2 phillips screws hold it to the rear deck.

FYI you would have to cut the metal under the deck to fit the newer style 3rd brake light, and I am not sure the rear deck from the newer car would fit although I do not see why not.

Does your car have the rear seat belt reels mounted on the rear deck? THe deck it self fissacly fits in but it's designed for cars with the seat belt reals mounted on the rear deck. So if you don't have them back there You'll be left with a Hole. I'd have to look about the brake light weather the metal needs cut or not.

Yes my seats belts have the reels on the shelf and yes i think there would be some cutting required because in the 89+ you can change the light bulb through the trunk area.
        I think. :?

I would have to check myself for the cutting deal. I know the light bulbs poke out through the trunk area in the 89+.

Yes but it dosn't have this hole(if there is one) to change the bulb from the trunk.

                Really?

Could have sworn mine had the area for it, and just needed to be popped out.

Yeah, I was thinking of updating that rear deck. I'll take a look sometime.

I just double checked it's solid metal back there under the light on my 88.
Oh I took the newer style 3rd light down to my 84 325e shell and it fits fine no metal cutting needed unless you don't want to pull the deck to change the bulb.
